St. Moritz
The next winter edition of the roving Nomad design fair, which most recently popped up in Venice, will bring an elite group of galleries, designers, and aesthetes to St. Moritz. Held at the 16th-century alpine mansion Chesa Planta from February 6–9, the collectors’ showcase will present contemporary pieces, limited edition works, and rare 20th-century objects. If you go, stay at the Carlton Hotel St. Moritz, which has plenty of activities for skiers and nonskiers, including a new helicopter flight that gives guests a bird’s-eye view of the Alps.

Rotterdam
From February 5–9, Art Rotterdamn Week turns the second-largest city in the Netherlands into a mecca for art and design. Attendees flock from around the world to visit Art Rotterdam fair, OBJECT Rotterdam—which showcases contemporary design—the Rotterdam Photo Festival, and many more events. Book a room at Mainport, a sleek member of Design Hotels overlooking the port, or CitizenM Rotterdam, a design-forward microhotel with furnishings by Vitra. In the evening, make an appointment at the Doctor, a speakeasy that shakes up boozy potions and elixirs to cure what ails you.

Southern California
Every February, midcentury-modern design fans jet off to Southern California for Palm Springs Modernism Week, which will take place February 13–23. This year’s keynote speaker is Daniel Liebeskind, and there are more than 350 events planned, including house tours, architectural walking tours, a classic car show, and nightly parties. Art Palm Springs will take place concurrently, from February 13–17. At the same time, Art Los Angeles Contemporary will happen just 100 miles away. You could start in L.A. and then head to Palm Springs. Fans of the Beverly Hills Hotel should request Bungalow 9—dedicated to Charlie Chaplin—which was just renovated by Champalimaud. The best places to stay in Palm Springs are L’Horizon Resort & Spa and the Parker Palm Springs, both of which are members of Leading Hotels of the World with unique, midcentury-inspired design.

Cape Town
One of the leading art fairs in Africa, Investec Cape Town Art Fair returns to the Mother City from February 14–16. In addition to the main section, there will be curated sections showcasing emerging and mid-career artists, leading print galleries, and design projects by Southern Guild, Cape Town’s preeminent design gallery. If you go, stay at the intimate Ellerman House, which has a world-class art collection, or the Silo, which boasts a stunning design by Thomas Heatherwick and is located directly above Zeitz MOCAA, Africa’s newest art museum.-

Fans of Scandinavian design should prepare to brave the cold and fly to Sweden for the annual Stockholm Design Week. Together with the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, it put Sweden on the map when it launched in 2002, and has become one of the most important design events in Europe. This year, highlights include the Young Swedish Design exhibition, Misschiefs (self-described as “a groundbreaking feminist nomadic exhibition of contemporary collectible design”), and the new Swedish Design Museum to Go, which will open the homes of prominent Swedes to visitors.
